AI: What I Love, What I Hate
Well, apparently there's as many people pissed off about AI art as there are posting it. I figured that I'd voice my opinion on the subject, since it's as divided as this topic is controversial.
My stance on AI right now, is that it's fun, and I enjoy playing with it. Since Pixiv has implemented a safe space for AI anime art, I made a secondary Pixiv for some neat stuff I generated with Dreamlike.art. However, I know it's easily abused, and it's expected but still disgruntling. Here's something I discovered while I was cleaning-up artist requests on Zerochan. Someone generated and posted this image.
I assume this was made with NovelAI. Which I think is able to take existing images or sketches and convert them to full, colored works. It's pretty, but it holds a dark secret!
I couldn't find who generated this, but when I plugged it into SauseNAO, the search's similarity algorithm immediately pulled this up.
So yeah. That's great. AI basically tracing art. While I can see the use in it and the rather impressive technological feat, this is basically what a lot of artists fear; their art getting copied and used by people who abuse AI generators in the most blatant example. Before this, there was also a fiasco in the Genshin Impact art community where an AI abuser nabbed a sketch from a livestream, "finished" it with AI and accused the original artist as the art thief. The difference in the person's skill and the AI was really obvious, though, and the issue was resolved quickly. Here's the artist showing what happened. Crazy stuff, but it was foreseen, and I'm glad websites are doing their part to moderate the flow and visibility of AI art on their platforms.
Now to get to the point that people will most likely debate with me on. I don't see an AI learning and creating based off of people's styles is art theft because look at all of us. We all developed are own styles by observing others' art styles. I mean, goddam, look at all the anime artists.
Here's something I did with Stable Diffusion. I typed in the prompt "anime girl by H.R. Giger" one of my favorite artists. This has got to be one of my favorite generations.
It definitely takes a lot of influence from his style, but I think it's safe to say that Giger would have never drawn something like this, and that's the thing. That which is generated with AI are unique images that the artists it has learned styles from are pictures that the artists never would have made. It's in cases like the ones mentioned above where the real theft lies and needs to be prevented.
What I also enjoy about AI art is it's ability to inspire new characters and settings and such. I've already got many ideas for new OCs thanks to AI. It also works great for model references!
So, let me know your thoughts on the sudden new corner of the universe. I'm really curious. What are your feelings on AI?
Also, if anyone wants to play, Dreamlike.art is the AI website I'm using most, right now, which has several variations of Stable Diffusion. Here's my H.R. Giger girl (without Photoshop tweaks), so you can reference the specs I used, although they might be outdated.
For real. I got blocked by an Anti Art Theft blog on Tumblr for speaking my mind and challenging the mod. Holy shit. lol
AntiArtTheft is a tumblr blog that condemns art theft and brings it to people's attention. Obviously, I'd be on it and would post stuff on there every once in a while. But these guys, are were starting to rub me the wrong way because they seem to be treading into cyberbullying and harassment territory.

The guy doesn't even try to refute my claims. He's just so jaded that I dare challenge him, and when I don't back down he silences me. Now he and his followers don't even care that I'm a huge advocate against art theft. They're calling me an art thief defender and a "buddy" to this one potential thief I don't even know just because my opinion is different, and I'm not trashing everyone they point the finger at. These guys are brainwashed like Trumplidites.
So I'm just saying beware of this blog. There's something toxic going on with these guys, and if it wasn't for them blocking me, I would have just left after making my case. I wish I had a way to report them for potentially being a harmful blog that harasses people, but since I'm not the target, I can't do anything. It looks like a good cause gone sour. Now, it just looks like it's becoming an outlet for people to bully others under the guise of fighting art theft. I want to fight against art theft, but not like this.

So yeah, even the holiday season couldn't pick dA back up, after it's been slowly fading out of public favor.
I'm gonna start posting in other places than just here. I've been posting stuff on Reddit, and it gets way more attention there than here. I'll be posting on Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit. I'm not sure about Tumblr. Probably. Hopefully, I'll start posting on Artri.se when that site finally gets done.
But yeah, dA is an interfacing nightmare, and I've just not been actively posting here because I'm getting so disenchanted by it. While I'll still post on here because of my decade-old galleries, it's time to expand my horizons. If people want to find my other social media sites, here's my Carrd.
NSFW Art Thief Returns!
I knew it was wise of to not delete the old journal about him. He's back, with a vengeance.
He pretty much hasn't changed at all, except for one thing. He's crediting some of the ones that I've caught him on, before, but I assure you he's making these bad edits on these without owner's permissions. It's nice when artists put "DO NOT REPRINT" in their descriptions. He's also still putting his name on this too. Honestly, he learns nothing.
If you own any of the originals, please file DMCA Takedowns.
If you don't, please report the reposts and/or spread the word, and maybe alert the original artists.
No harassing from anyone!
Please help find the owners of all the other stuff he's reposted. Some of it is official art. If you guys find anything, let me know, and I'll add it to my journal.
